really. that is very cool at woods the place i worked, we printed at 900dpi that was just about tighter than a photograph we are the only ones in the U S that did it, it was named ultra dot.

the press was in phoenix arizona at woods lithographic and i had to look that up.

 

The original hiedelberg presesses where the best counterfiet courncie Presses in the world !!! until the late 70s!

i never got into prepress i hated that part of it.
i loved to run the press more than anything, my boss would set it up and i would run it. keep in mind i only had about 4 years at it, it was a sweet baby.

ive always felt printing is like trying to balance on a ball

pressure

mess up and print solids.

i wish i could do that for a living.
it didint pay as well but i loved to work on the press
and you always worked on the press

The original use wasn't for printing on paper, it was for putting lot #s on the concave bottoms of soda cans as they blazed by on a conveyor belt. Still do it to this day.

 

LV the images were fucking amazing. i cant explain it.
the dots were so small you couldnt see them with a 10X very well
but when you got it right man the color POPed of the paper.

it cost them enough to run a job using this technique that if we fucked it up we could reprint the entire thing and still make money

 

isnt that he way they mark most products for like time date and stuff.
that way they can change it up without changing a print head or anything

i wonder how they feed it ink

Exactly. My dad retired decades ago. The original technology is ancient by today's standards. Hell, he helped create the first facimile (fax) machine back in 1952 for the US Navy. They passed on it though. Eventually the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railway bought the machines to send Freight manifests back and forth between Denver and Salt Lake City.

 

At least you have something intelli- erm, interesting to say most of the time.
