There's no actual sexual intercourse in public... at least not during the beginning of the fair and not in the open.

I've been there twice - once just to check it out with a couple of lesbian friends, and a second time I did some volunteer charity work for a non-profit sex testing clinic. No, not specifically a gay event. I mean, we have a gay pride parade and fair for that.

SF does have a fairly large gay community and they always come out to represent at public events. For me, as a native San Franciscan, it's no big deal - but I'm sure it would freak most people out.
