Its got to ber done :(

But anyway I need to run two computers online (but not continuously) from our paint mixing room but only have one communication port which runs to a switchboard and then to a server and then onto the net

What is the easiest option to get them to run off the same line if that is even posible?
Alternatively we do have a wireless connection that runs from the second shop across the roas that I MAY be able to access but from what i've been told will in all likelyhood have a weak signal due to the fact that the antennas are directly aimed at each other from across the road
    Any suggestions appreciated

Just get you a switch, plug in your net line to the input port then run 2 cables to each of your pc's. You get 4 port unmanaged switches for little of nothing.

Thanks but knowing my boss it would probably be too technical for him :p but if it comes from the paint rep it should be good :)
I have to talk to the paint rep next week about it ...the other way was I figured was to have one computer and two different users for the programs and switch between the two.

Hopefully this will be done the easy way

There is a line that most of us use at work Theres two ways of doing something the easy way and the bosses way ;)

    It's too dark. :p

It's sleeting at the moment, and it makes the snow come loose.

It's not complicated at all. With that few of computers I'm sure you're shop is setup via DHCP, which means the server assigns ip adresses to the pc's. So you don't have to setup anything, just plug in it.

No button, all 4 ports are active and accessible at the same time. It literally takes the communication and spreads the speeds equally to all pc's that's plugged in to them. The traffic is seperate, you have multiple lines connected at the same time that can access totally different things.

Thanks for that Bama the shop is set up via DHCP with only 3 computers having static IP addresses but on the server we have 3 computers that are usedfor different purposes and when we lost power we couldn't use one of the systems due to the fact that one of the clock on station had taken its IP address so we had to change the range of IP addresses it can choose from.

Go to each workstation, open a command line, and type "ipconfig /renew" This will refresh all workstations ips.

And if you're using static you're not using DHCP. You're using either DNS or WINS. To add another all you need to do is increase your range in the DHCP scope, if that's what you're using.
