  2. Our gif only content threads have a rule where all thumbs must be posted as a static thumbnail that does not play. Currently imagebam made a change where they no longer produce static thumbs. Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

Since the forum is full of imagecollectors this has to be the place to ask.
I use an old application version Paint Shop Pro 7 to make an image browser file for an image media content. But things moved on, cd became dvd and it starts to become a pain to generate due to the 10K pics (it has to be done in multiple stages save/hang/reboot), and it's also an island solution (the image map needs PSP to read), so I'm on the lookout for something else, preferrably in the html direction, so a common browser is usable to dwell through the pics. It has to be an old application (version) so it runs here on my (everybody has fun now!) windows 98 oem. Anyone has one in mind?

By image maps, do you mean the coordinates used in HTML so that specific portions of the image are clickable?

If you know some basic HTML, you can easily do that in a text editor.

Here's an online image map builder:

With 'image maps' I mean a matrix (y columns/x rows) of clickable thumbnails, so what I need is an application that is able to produce thumbnails of all pictures in a given folder, and to generate html that allows to browse through them, and, similar to what PSP does, is able to put all those thumbnails in one file, so if I have a 10K pics-folder that I'm not inflicted 10K thumbnail files too. The same as the pspbrwse.jbf files from PSP, but for a browser, so application independent, being the main goal of my question.

ACDSee has an HTML photo gallery plug-in if I remember correctly. Simply select the folder of your images, choose the thumbnail size and it will generate the gallery for you.

Burn the pictures and HTML files on a CD/DVD and they can be viewed locally. ;)

If you want to go online, there's the very popular Coppermine. Though, you need a web server with PHP and MySQL capabilities.

Sounds to me like you just need an old html thumbnail generator.

There's a bunch of them at the link above to choose from, all freeware.

@Razor, yep, ACDSEE had a thumb generator. I used version 2.34 for about 10 years till I switched OSs. I never liked all the crap in the newer versions.
