Thanks for the advice! I can see what you mean with jackson needs to be clearer, couldn't really see that before in photoshop.

I've been ready since the end of Round 3!!!

Apparently Sid went for a holiday and decided to NOT fill anyone in on it!

So it's on hiatus until he returns!

One thing I noticed though was the white stroke on the "ORT" get's a little lost in the hair.

Not sure if that was the desired effect or not.

Still though, the small font on the name, then that caps semi-gothic font on the username. That's epic stuff!

a lot of the white stroke actually came from topaz, i've noticed it does that with a lot of text, there was only a tiny white stroke set to overlay and about 50% opacity, wasn't really visible before the topaz. quite like the way it softens as it passes over the hair though

Yeah it has some weird effects on text, that's why I rasterize and sharpen my text before throwing it through the filter.

It usually keeps it from getting jagged or distorted.

i quite like the effect it has on text in general to be honest, i think a lot of the time it ties the image and the text together if they're looking a bit disjointed

True, it definitely smooths it out a little, but it doesn't work well on small text!

Like when I put "phun.org" in small letters I'm always watching to see how distorted the filter will make it.

It's a great tool though, I know a lot of gfx guys look down on Topaz, but it's handy for what we do.

yeah like everything it has it's place. i've come to look at sigs as a little stylised graphic though, not just a photo at the end of your post. i think a lot of regular photos don't really 'fit' as sigs, whereas using something like topaz to sharpen it up and smooth the tones out a bit gives it a slightly surreal sort of feel, not too realistic.

    hard to explain really

My experience of using Topaz on text is that it brought out a load of severe jaggies around the edges.
