Shit I should really brush up on my history of the cow.

Vine ripened tomatoes roasted with a bit of garlic makes a great pasta sauce, with fresh basil thrown in at the end of course.

 

I guess it was about 30 or so years ago, our wonderful agricultural scientist developed a hybrid tomato that was sufficiently stout and had a tough enough skin to allow for "machine harvesting." Prior to that, all tomatoes were picked by hand. Ever since then, commercial tomatoes have been relatively speaking, tasteless. I call them wet red cardboard. You have to get some of the old seeds and grow them yourself or find a local farmer that uses the older tomato type seeds and hand picks them, in order to get really good tomatoes anymore.

I thought you might since Insomniac mentioned him. He's basically a very successful British chef who dedicates a lot of his time trying to get people to eat healthier. He's got good intentions but is quite an irritating guy and I think he's just recently brought a show to America.
