Hi, kinda got sidetracked from 3-D for a bit due to lack of things I wanted to make 3D. Well, while looking for some tutorials on 3d sine waves I found a really fun application called:

    Apophysis 7X 2010 (release 12)

It's a hack of the Apophysis program done by this fellow, Xyrus02
and I think it's excellent. Very easy to work with and produces beautiful pieces, once you get the hang of it.

The backgrounds are all made by me to try to complement the fractal, in gimp 2.6.8

I'm going to try importing the base transparent render for the one above into Blender to make it a 3d metallic

    The base render

After a mode change in Gimp

Honestly, while it looks kinda neat, I have no idea what you would ever use it for. Possibly something Manga. Tentacles would work out I think.

I can do one better. Every one of these I do has a transparent background, just like the renders most use now. I havent posted them yet because I havent had a chance to encrypt my normal stuff yet.

My most ambitious render so far.

    The base render @ 1920x1200
    took 9 hours 54 minutes 49 seconds @ 643,463 calculations per second
    9 hours = 32 400 seconds
    54 minutes = 3240 seconds
    49 seconds = 49 seconds
    ---------------------------------
    35,689 seconds * 643,463 calculations

That's 22.964 Billion calculations to render this pic.

Ok, in between Apophysis and your 3d rendering app you need a translating app. Apparently the prescribed method is an app called Flam3. Still working on that.

You can always mask it out and make brush out of it, that what i would do, if you dunno what else to do with it

Always been fascinated by fractals. You've got some awesome ones here! I can see a lot of these as being backrounds for wallpapers. Thanks!

The rendering took about 6 hours. 1640x....

    I call this dancing light..

and a second edit, some changes in the hue

    Fun little program
    ............................................................
    Did some more playing around

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

No render just a printscreen and fixed in ps, the worst part is, i didnt use more than perhaps 15 minutes, super easy program that can make very interesting results

It looks like water, just the way it came out from aph. Adjusting colors and adding a frame..

Just imagine if all the things was as easy as this.. but i still enjoy it

If you up your filter settings you can smooth it out and give it that glassy look.
It really is easy to do, especially once you start in on the mutations and variants.
My next thing is to use flam3 to vectorize the fractals, then move them into blender for lighting and textures. flam3 seems to be a bit more difficult than apophysis is.
