Well, I'm a product of a Conservative provided education system. I therefore have a solid grounding in geography, world history, national history, maths, sciences, literature, studied more than one Shakespeare play and respect the world around me.

My nephew is the product of a Labour provided education system, and thinks a computer is the answer to everything, is allowed to use text-speak in exams and doesn't know who Winston Churchill or William Shakespeare is.

    Let's see.

    Terry Pratchett.

That's probably enough to determine your satire habits

Not quite that bad. We don't have the snazzy team names that you guys have.

Labour, y'see, hate Britain and British history; they consider it `unclean`. So, for the longest time, they downgraded the teaching of important events like World War II, because it showed us in a good light and our `European brothers` in a bad light.

They've been back-pedalling desperately for a couple of years on that, seeing as how they're about to get royally (pun intended) spanked in the General Election.

Not really a big fantasy fan. More of a sci-fi.

And yes, they are different, no matter what book stores, libraries and my mother seem to think.

Apples to apples in a good school system (in my area, at least) it's about the teachers. They're either good or they ain't.

Yes, I read theregister.co.uk most everyday for tech news. So I get the bleed over. I dont pretend to understand the nuances, but it gives a general feel for things, I think.

Here, we call your labour party "Liberals" and your "Torries" "Conservatives". Actually, i think the parties are fairly global, but with localized terminologies.

Ours is the system they teach under.

We used to have a lot of grammar schools, which were, basically, state schools that selected their kids.

'Course, Labour despised this system, and set about dismantling it. And the main reason they despised it? It worked.

Arch-Liberals are always infuriated by things they hate that actually work; racial profiling, neo-colonialism. Drives them nuts.

I look back at my great teachers and I absorbed like a sponge. I feel like going back and strangling a couple of my old government and math teachers.

Yeah, the traditional match up is Labour - Democrat, Conservative - Republican. Which made the Bush-Blair duenna so odd. ;)

It's not the same though; Tories are not quite as mad as some Republicans, even the old, arch-Tories.

Helps that we're a secular nation, I think.

Any teacher worth 2 shits in a sewer leaves our district by the Christmas break. The really good ones stay the 1 year then never visit the city again.
The shit just sits around, smelling the place up.

Don't get me started on how religion has disintegrated the U.S. schools.

I have always thought it odd that a country that used the phrase `separation of Church and State` as a progenitor doesn't, in fact, have that separation.

Eh, just an awful lot of it is spin. Dont get the idea that most conservatives here are old time, hardline, historical, "Slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun" Conservatives. Mostly, folks just want to be left alone and not expected to pay for some "pay for the worthless" program. I dont give a crap what people want to do, just dont expect me to pay for it or endorse it. Go pay for it, and do what you want. Does that sound conservative to you? Yet I get criticized and called a conservative all the time. So, you'll have to forgive me for not buying the spin on that one.

But then I don't get Columbus Day celebrations and the Thanksgiving Paegant thing they have kids do in schools. Considering that in a few years, they're then taught the truth about these things.

Personally, I think it's why you're all schizo.

Not you, PM; we all know why you're the way you are.
