Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads.     Kill the process and open a prompt as administrator
    then
    defrag c: -a -v

    read it
    then

    defrag c: -v -w

    this will defrag and organize all the files and
    because windows is stupid, this will also
    defrag and make contiguous all the files
    over 64MB as well (which the gui version wont do).

    Or, just get a decent disk utility like Bama said.
    I always use the Ontrack set but theyre expensive.

    It's also amazing the number of calls I took at Gateway from people who vacuumed out their systems or sprayed windex on laptop screens or any of a million other stupid things.
