As night follows day, even during a depression, people gamble. In fact, I do believe that the longer a depression, the more business casinos and bookmakers do. :wink:

 

Hasn't stopped us, we go about once a month. Going the week of the 4th as a matter of fact - both the wife and I are playing in a slot tournament. But I have noticed a large drop off in attendace the last few times i've been.

 

We don't have casinos, really, over here, although they are trying to change that. We have bookies and the lottery. Oh, and bingo.

'Course, sports betting isn't illegal here like it is over there, so that changes the whole business.

 

They're a lot of fun as long as you keep in perspective, it is for entertainment not for getting rich quick. People have problems with that.

Interesting, didn't know it legal to gamble on sports there. What kind of % of "sugar money" do they keep?

I have no clue; never been into a bookies in my life. But they must make some coin; there's plenty of them.

I think America is the only First World nation where sports betting is illegal. :wink:

If you ever go in one, budget yourself. Say, `I'm going in with this much, and no more, and when it's gone, I'm gonna leave.` Stick to that mantra, you'll have a blast and not go broke. :wink:

There were these two epic days in Vegas many moons ago; I actually came out a little ahead, unlike my mates. :wink:

It is very exciting! Ares's comments below are very true, it's easy to get addicted to - more so than drugs or alcohol in my eyes.

15 % is a pretty good standard around here - have no clue about other states.

I know sports betting is legal in Vegas, not sure about Atlantic City - never been there. But other than that, you're right - no gambling here.

Everyone should go to Vegas at least once. It's a little busy for my taste to go often though, we try to get out there once a year. I've been going http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&u...&oi=local_group&ct=more-results&cd=1&resnum=1 lately. Plenty of casinos to choose from and several championship golf courses that aren't that expensive to play.
