    I get around home barefoot whenever I can, so my feet are pretty tough.
    I do have some lightweight shoes that I wear if I have to when playing

    Definitely do what's comfortable. As a drum teacher, too, the only way to learn something well is to practice slowly -- if you practice fast and sloppy you get good at fast and sloppy playing.

    The first time I played rock music in front of 100 people I was 16. It was a school dance, and I put a drumstick right through a tom-tom head! I had to improvise the rest of the dance. I made four dollars and sixty cents or something like that.
