    You're making great pics Magge.
    Maybe the most difficult issue in photography is mastering light, especially daylight/sunlight.
    It seems to be all over the place and the reflection tends to blend structures like the tower (foreground) with sky (background) resulting in loss of depth.
    So one of the first things you can do is fix the edges so foreground (landscape) and background (sky) become a bit detached and so regain a sense of depth.

    As you can see [​IMG] this happened with your original shot while your 2 state of the art lenses (eyes) told your differently.

    Over an intermediate step with a B/W adj. layer (yellow filter) to isolate the sky,
    I fixed the edges with a blurred source image in between the overlayed edges [​IMG] to regain some structure and depth.


    Proceeded with some color balancing on the sky so this [​IMG] came to life. Daylight/sunlight under control and sharper edges/enhanced contrast.

    Another one just to show how sunlight affects color and contrast ... and also because I just can't help myself goofing around with images. :p

    [​IMG] Your source image: notice how the sunlight blurs the tree/branches and flattens the clouds and because an evening sun is quite yellow it also tends to neutralise the blue in the sky.

    [​IMG] So I restored some of the contrast and the sky to regain depth and that sunset feeling.

    [​IMG] A step further: focussed on the sun; a bit brighter and enhancing the clouds.

    Don't make me blush guys; just go to your local magic wand store and buy one like I did. Doesn't cost alot, the only trick is to choose the one that suits you. :p

    OK Sabre, did this one for you.
    First I trimmed it to get the focus more on the lioness.
    Next took it through some 8 steps to remove the flat shadowing, enhance details on light, color and stuff.
    Similar goal as Magge's: depth, detail and keeping the sunlight in line.

    Geez i love this thread, love the updates by everyone and the variations by tcf!

    Here are a couple of pics I took the other day of the harbour bridge and opera house from garden Ilsand potts point after fixing the gearbox on the ship in the photo's which is the H.M.A.S TOBRUK! I wish I had a better camera as not many people can take a photo from this angle as it is a restricted area.
