Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads.     It started as gray. Then, from the top toolbar

    Layer>Layer Style>Gradient Overlay

    Play around with the setting and the drop down menu for different gradients. It also has a feature to refine/change the direction/angle of the gradient.
