    Thanks Ramsfan.

I live ten mins. drive from the Falls - so I have the opportunity to shoot in year-round in all kinds of weather and light.

The wife says if I show her one more pic of the Falls, though...its grounds to file the divorce papers. ;)

Too many variables to know the fix for certain - but I'd suggest trying combos of different white balance settings, lower ISO, etc.

As to focusing, what I typically do is zoom in on close detail, lock my focus, then pull back to a wider angle to compose the shot. I don't rely on auto-focus too much (except event photography)...I prefer manual much of the time.

Also, I generally shoot at the lowest ISO possible and compensate with a longer exposure. On the olympus e10 I shoot with 80ISO - and with the Nikon d80 generally go with 100ISO.

You might want to try bracketing your shots, as well. Manually over/under expose a series of shots starting with what the camera recommends as the optimum exposure in auto settings. Eventually you'll get to the point of knowing the best settings to work with under a variety of lighting conditions.

Oh, and one final word - TRIPOD. heh
Pain in the ass to carry around much of the time - but a sturdy tripod adds that intangible sharpness and clarity of focus that can elevate a shot from mundane to impressive.

Shot this last winter after an ice storm we had here in Niagara.

It was on the grounds of the local hospital - the unusual lighting was from a mix of sodium vapour, mercury and incandescent street lighting.

Its was very surrealistic, yeah. The shots turned out almost exactly how it appeared to the eye. Everything was caked in a thick layer of ice which really captured the light.

A view of the Niagara River (near Queenston Heights/Brock Monument).

I got lucky with a dramatic sky that day.

Likewise...thought I'd try my hand at a bit of post-editing on the shot as well. Love the scenic composition of the shot.

    Resized to 1024x768
