I don't get her status and exposure. When I look at her, even in a dress in Venice, I just think "ok beautiful face" without any spark or some kind of innuendo.
She has been married for like a decade, has a family, has a face and does the same "exotic woman that can fight" shtick in practically every movie but lacks all the physical traits or never had a legit "feature"–for the lack of a better term–on some gossip site such as TMZ. Yet she keeps booking the best roles (in the proverbial sense).
She must have insanely good connections.

 

WW did 800+M, a significant part of which was due to the strength of female audiences making repeat viewings (kind of like Barbie). I suspect that Gal gets a lot of the perceived credit for that success, and that's she's been able to continue booking high profile gigs on studio assumptions that said audience will carry over to other roles. I do think there's a shelf life to that, and the last few years of middling successes to outright flops have eroded her star power a bit.

I think she's really pretty, regardless.

Yeah the first one was indeed awesome Totally played to her strength, she rocked it. I wouldn't constrict the main reason for its success to the female audience. It was a really great first movie for a big character in a universe (whose promising future was blundered, unfortunately). But that was practically a lifetime ago and the second one, it was a true "huh, what happened?" experience. It was weird and ... not so great, to put it mildly.

 

Each to their own, but saying Gal is less than top tier is crazy. Reminds me of when people were saying Margot Robbie was mid.

 

I know I'm a minority in this but I've always thought Gal is not suited to play a badass. Compare her to Sigourney Weaver in Aliens or Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2. There's no doubt in anyone's mind that those are warrior women. Gal just tries to play the part. She reminds me of Emilia Clarke in that one Terminator movie. She's just too sweet.

 

Did you guys forget she's Israeli and served in the IDF? That's a damn sight more heroic than most of her colleagues who only act the soldier.

 

She was a conscript. There's nothing heroic about that. I speak from personal experience here.

 

Doesn't change the fact that she actually did something in the real world. 99% of the rest of them have never done anything more strenuous than Pilates class.

At the same time, I do understand what they're talking about. She does not have the gravitas of sigourney Weaver, nor does she have the sheer physical believability of Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2. She's very pretty, but they have presence that only a very few women actors have. Helen mirren in the "red" movies was also excellent. You never wondered whether or not she was capable of or would actually just shoot you dead. They're just aren't an awful lot of actresses that can convey that sort of presence. I would also add famke Jansen. I thought she did very well as Xenia on a top in the 007 movie. Then of course, you absolutely cannot forget Grace Jones in Conan the destroyer. You never stopped and thought she's not scary she's just kind of silly. Nope you never thought that. You might be afraid that you'd find her in your bedroll kind of like a rattlesnake. But you never thought she was weak. Aren't an awful lot of people where you just think, yep, better watch out for that one she's a little scary.

 

She’s a pretty lady. It’s fun to look at her. I keep checking back in thinking there’s gonna be something new added, but all it is is this extremely long conversation going on back-and-forth between two people who have decided this is the place to have extremely long conversations. Some new pictures would be great!
