I just read that the book isn't an autobiography but an actual novel. She "wrote" a novel with a ghost writer over a few zoon calls and emails.

What a joke. Imagine the privilege of having someone else write your work just because you are famous. Doing a promo tour to pretend it's your book is a brass neck.
Yeah she said she had a "collaborator" but fuck me. This person did 99.9% of the work and didn't even get their name on the book.

That happens to a lot of famous people. Hilary Duff didn't technically write her novel Elixir either.

I know they all use ghost writers got their biogs but it's the first time I've seen it as a novel.
I suppose it's no different to them putting their name on a perfume bottle or clothes. Other people get to use their name and they get their ego boosted and a shit ton of cash.

To me, if you can't write a song, don't be a musician. Same with books, movies, anything artistic or skilled. If you can't do it yourself, don't claim credit for it.

I read Rhett and Link's novel too. They came up with the plot and the characters and that's about it. Decent book, but they promoted the hell out of it as if they actually sat down at a computer together and wrote it. As if they actually have the time, what with putting out a show every day.

James Patterson doesn't write anything I think. His name is pretty much a rentable franchise now.

He still writes the Alex Cross series, but yeah his "novels" have almost entirely been a ghost writer production line for a good 10 years - quality probably variable - as long as there are 4-5 new novels a year to sell in airports. To be fair, some of the actual writers have managed to branch out independently so its not entirely one-way, and the deals can't be too onerous for some of them to still be writing for him 10-20 books in.
You've also got the new trend of families of deceased writers like Ludlum & Clancy co-opting new authors to continue their most famous characters/series.

At least Millie appears to have had some ideas and put some semblance of effort into this, Lea Michele opted to use her Glee fame to sell effectively a journal with her face on it to impressionable teenage girls - one of those self-help books that is 30% words, 70% notepad for your own thoughts.

When you think about it, the market for new writers is probably so small these ghost writers are happy to have their work out there and hopefully get paid, even if a celeb is on the cover.

Ghostwriting has been around as long as publishing has. It’s really not a big deal. The person who wrote it knew exactly what they were agreeing to.

Donald Trump never wrote his books and never read them.
(" Using ghostwriters, Trump has produced up to 19 books on business, financial, or political topics under his name. ... Trump has called the volume [The Art of the Deal] his second favorite book, after the Bible. " wiki) (He never read the Bible either.)

Millie Bobby Brown's ghostwriter is Kathleen McGurl. The book title is "Nineteen Steps" and Amazon does NOT mention the ghostwriter!

well, it's a fair point to accredit the contribution to women who might otherwise go unseen.

    HOWEVER…

Mills is a young woman putting art out into the world at an incredible pace, she's making it a brighter more positive , more intellectual place for all of us. inspiring young females globally.

we should simply be thankful for her.

a Higher Level woman like her could choose any field of work they like, we should just be humbled and grateful she has chosen to shine her light into our worlds.

I don't see much of a difference between ghostwriters and script doctors. Carrie Fisher made an entire career out of never being given public credit for her script work.

They’re variations on the same idea. And even people who fully write their own books don’t do it alone. They might write all the words, but not every word and idea is theirs.
