Speak from experience huh, I know - my brother-in-law lost his job because of it. He got his license suspended so he couldn't drive - hense fired. Believe me, I heard over and over how stupid I was for what I did - like I said, still in the doghouse.

yeah, I know....I made a mistake. Besides, I had to come in the next a.m. to read everything, I could barely remember the entire conversation.

 

It's been a long time....but my dumbass was nipped twice. Second time was an 18 month suspension, and a weeks lodging courtesy of the county.
Never mind the cash involved.

 

Down here we have these stickers that the TAC (Transport Accident Commission) give out, they read 'Touched By The Toll' (Toll as in road toll, ie. how many have died whilst in cars).

It's scary seeing how many people have them on their cars these days.
And it's every scarier seeing those same people driving like maniacs on the road.

A little over a year ago two guys i went to school with were driving home, drunk, from the pub.
They lived 5 minutes away.
They took the corner into their street too quickly, and rolled.
The driver survived, without injury, the passenger died instantly.

The driver was a bit of a dickhead at school and did some silly things, but being responsible for your best mate dying and seeing his body torn apart wouldn't be much fun.

The driver has since got his life straight, but he got sentenced to about 5 years jail for culpable driving (i think).

The worst thing of all is that the families of the two kids live next door, so it must be horrible for them both.

I've made more mistakes than i care to remember, but thankfully i don't drink much so those mistakes have never involved alcohol.

 

Yeah...none of that shit is any good. I know a guy, not really a friend, but he had just picked up some hen at the bar, he was shit faced and rolled his jeep over. The girl died, and he survived, albeit quite banged up, but having to live with that shit is worse than any injury.

 

Thank God, the only one injured by my dumbass was me. On my motorcycle no less. Leaned into a corner, and passed out. Woke up at the hospital with a fractured spine. Dumbass

They're only called 'pints' in the UK, down here we have a 'pot' of beer (which is just a glass of beer).

And when drinking at home, it's either in cans or 'stubbies'.
This is a stubbie of VB (the most popular beer here).

 

Yep, it would be a fucking horrible weight to carry for the rest of your life.

I can't even fathom how bad it would be.

 

Bad luck Salty, at least you're back on your feet now. Same with my brother-in-law, all is well now but it took him about 5 years to get back to that point.

Terrible story Jenn, I personally knew a couple of guys I went to school with that got killed within a couple of months of each other that both had kids. Very bad situation, which I should've thought about. But when you're that trashed you lose all reason - that was the problem to begin with. Important thing is that all is well and I will not do that again.

 

My sister has lost her license twice, both times for drink driving.
Thankfully she's older now and doesn't drink, which is a relief.

My brother was banned from driving for like 10 years, but he's finally got his license (for the first time ever, actually) and is very responsible now as well.

They've both got kids, so i guess that helped settle them both down.
