I guess I bought it mainly because it was something different, and I'd heard real good things about the weapon. I shoot so rarely now that the cost thing isn't an issue either. If you get the opportunity (if you haven't already), definitely give it a go azz. Sweet balance, feels great in the paw, and (I think) the recoil is much less than you'd expect. She's a sweetheart.

i shoot hot 44magnum handloads. So i am not adverse to recoil salts.

I don't know if you saw my thread last year after i came back from my hunting trip up north. But i had a picture of my 44mag that i used to shoot prairie dogs with.

How long have you been re-loading?

 

6-7 years now. mainly for my 22-250. I have experimented with at least a dozen different types and variations to that cartridge to find the best bullet/powder for it. I am not 100% happy with the results and until i find me a good bullet i will keep on trying. I am experimenting with a 40 grain hollow-point but before i even shoot a single one of those loads i am already looking for another type simply because the data to that bullet doesn't appeal to me already. 4,100fps from the muzzle sounds impressive but because of the ballistic coefficient it slows down to 1/2 the original velocity at 300 yards. That just sucks.

 

Excellent stopping power at close range though.
I have a cousin who was hard into it for years. He showed me the process back when I was a kid, but of course I couldn't appreciate the intricacy of the whole thing at that point. I may have to roust him up.

 

I've been dying to buy a Desert Eagle in .44 MAG, but the fucking oil/heating costs are extremely prohibitive to "fun" spending this year. A buddy of mine has one, and I loved it.

 

reloading is tidious work and very repetetive and mundane. But if you have an ultimate goal like i do then it makes it all the worth while. For example:

reloading a bullet only has 3 costs associated with it.
bullet - $.14
powder - $.11
primer - $.025

so total cost per round is only $.275 or 27 and a half cents each. vs. paying $18 for a box of 20 rounds. When i handload i also max load to get as much speed out as possible, i also try and seat the bullets out as far as possible to increase accuracy, and every load gets hand checked for powder charge down to the 1/10th of a grain. So it makes for a very consistant shot to shot ratio.

Could you imagine my 4,000 rounds i bring up every year if i were to buy them? at $18 per 20 rounds that is $3,600 bucks! I can't afford that shit. :-?

 

you must have very big hands to shoot a dessert eagle in 44 mag. The grip they use is huge for most hands and an average size hand isn't big enough to grip that.

 

LOL...you know what they say about guys with big hands?
On a serious note...I'm 6'2, and about 220-230, so I haven't found an uncomfortable grip on any of the big bores that I've shot.

 

i figure you were a big guy when you didn't complain about the dessert eagle's grip.
