  2. Our gif only content threads have a rule where all thumbs must be posted as a static thumbnail that does not play. Currently imagebam made a change where they no longer produce static thumbs. Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

    i know, ads are annoying, but they may rise some funds. why not letting all those leechers (the random 4000 guests who are just killing bandwidth) "pay" with presenting them (and only them, not the ones who have gegistered) ads?

    (the last server-upgrade isn´t that long ago... a server-upgrade every half a year might be fine, but getting rid of some ballast might elongate the span between upgrades...)

    There ought to be an option to display static pages w/o hitting the DB for all the nonregistered users; rerender them every minute or so. There's no reason 2 beefy servers like that shouldn't be able to handle a few thousand visitors easily with a little intelligent coding.

    Sadly no source code available and the mods API doesn't look sufficient to pull this off, so it'd require a move to another forum software package. :-( SOSH handles high tens of thousands of visitors without significant problems, last I knew their servers were comparably sized.

    It was fucking horrible this morning. When you could get on, it was extremely slow, and other times one couldn't even get to the forums.
