hahaha... i best describe it in terms you can understand. You remember a few decades back when you guys had a huge rabbit population problem where they out grazed your native animals like kangaroos and cows and sheeps for grass? well here in the US we have a different problem and that is ground squirrels. They did holes in the ground and what that does is it causes the cows to accidentally step into their little holes and break their legs, You have to put down an entire cow for that! also their mounds of dirt wreak havoc on the irrigation system the farmers use. So every year i get invited up there to shoot as many ground squirrels off as possible along with coyotes. This helps ensure that the price of beef stays low due to lack of losses from injured cows.

 

LA = suck. My brother lives there. Aside from the movie industry it's a crappy urban sprawl almost on the level of Houston.

New York is odd, it's definately worth seeing once; lots of cool stuff there but not a very pleasant city and it's almost like a small town with all the people there who don't recognize that there's a world outside (sort of the "Americans don't know anything about the rest of the world" thing boiled down into one city). But there's also a lot of cool people who have been all over the place, and there's obviously tons of great culture/food/bars/everything under the sun--there's no greater melting pot in the world. People tend to either love it or hate it.

Memphis is pretty cool,along with Nashville, Austin, and Savannah one of the nicer cities in the south to visit (New Orleans is in it's own category, Las Vegas and New York are the only other two US cities that are so different from everything around them). Memphis is a little rougher than the rest but still pretty cool.

Toronto is nice. That's about all I got from it. It's like a cleaner Seattle, maybe. Lacks the charm of a Quebec or Halifax, but lacks their annoyances too. Probably the cleanest city I've ever been to.

Los Angeles has the typical tourist attractions to them, you have the huge nightclub scene, the card clubs, the malls and shops, but don't expect to get any bargains down there except for food. ALL the asian restaurants down there are typically dirt cheap cause there is just so much competition.

citywalk (celeb hangout)
and don't be surprise as to how shitty melrose avenue looks.

i haven't been to the east coast so i can't tell you where to go or what to do other than to try out there BBQ when in the south!

NP. Personally I'd recommend Austin over Memphis but the whole Graceland thing has its pull. Austin is really the center for interesting art and music in the south these days (Nashville has the recording industry but Austin has all the good live shows).

I don't personally like New York but you have to see it and make up your mind; the only thing even vaguely comparable I've seen is London, but New York is just bigger in every sense of the world. I would definitely recommend seeing it.

If you're dead set on the west coast, San Francisco is leaps and bounds better than LA unless you want to see Hollywood.

I assume you know that there are only a handful of US cities (New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Washington DC) that you can really get around in without renting a car. Even though it's huge, LA has no real subway/rail and the bus system is incredibly sketchy (and even trying to take cabs around is painful).

I didn't know that, but Memphis has been my dream for a long time.

Beale Street, Graceland, Sun Studio, Pink Palace etc., and i think they even have a big festival in May (when we're likely to be there).

Yes we did - The people were nice and we visited 2 or 3 times and the place was all up toether - We came back 2 weeks ago for good and there was filth, dirt and grime everywhere - Broken toilets - Smashed Walls and Floors - Dogs had chewed up half the kitchen!!!! - The list goes on but its making me mad thinking about it - Fuckers!!!!
