We've got a very high Vietnamese population in Melbourne.

Vietnamese and Chinese are taking over much of our fast-food industry too, and they're doing it because generally they're the only one who want to work hard enough to make such businesses a success.

Generalisations, i know, but it really is true.

 

well coming from a country where working 7 days a week is the norm it is not that far a stretch to see them running businesses that are open 7 days a week as well.

 

also there is a basis of truth in every stereotype. so don't worry on some of them i don't take offense to.

Dentists are one of my worst fears, i absolutely despise going and need to be dragged there.

 

i HATE it more than anything. my dentist is really rough too...

he always uses that metal pick and basically jams it into my gums and then tells me they are bleeding...

but when you get calcium buildups at the base of your teeth they do need to scrape it off. You just happen to get them more than most people.

and i don't completely agree with the first statement. how do you differentiate between them when you are talking?? you aren't able to see the spelling so you can't tell which one the person is using. sooooo you use context clues, which you would do while reading, too.

example:

"one ____ three four" is clearly "two" and not "too" or "to" and you know this because of the context, not the spelling

 

but if we were to spell things phonically how would you spell "two" if i just pronounce it as "too?" What how would you phonically spell "meat" or "meet?"

 

well, they are pronounced the same way, so i would spell them the same way.

/tu/ is the right way

 

so now two completely different words would be phonically spelled identically? That would not work!

 

I just realised my basketball team is finally getting shown on cable tv here (second time, EVER).

That's the upside, the downside is that we suck arse and thus i'll be disappointed when the game is over (we've actually gone 0-8 since i turned on).

What about the word "chest"? It can mean a box with treasure, as in treasure chest, or a part of the body. Those are two completely different words that are spelled identically in English ;-)
