It may be because our cultures are different but that's pretty much the way it is over here.

 

Ok. The average work week here i 37 hours.

I Denmark, you can sit on your ass all day at home, and you'd still get money enough to pay for food, bills and rent.
I support that, but I don't support lazy people.

 

I work 5 10h:45min shifts minimum, but then I have 3 days off after every block of 5

Not here, unless you have several kids or work related injuries you don't get shit from the government. You get unemployment for a limited time, not sure how long it is as I've never been unemployed. But it's a very low percentage of you're last jobs wage. You only get that if you were laid off, if you were fired or quit - you get nothing.

true, and you might be fine and happy with whatever you have planned and the money you'll be making, but this is not always the case. you might see what we mean some day or maybe you won't. i just remember being in college and getting my first job offer with my degree and felt like i was going to be rich. over time i realized that amount of money wouldn't get me nearly as far as i originally thought when i imagine having a whole family, house, cars, etc with that. i'm not complaining since people raise a family with much less that i have made, but i want nice stuff. no shame in admitting that. like you said, depends how you live your life. however, when you add a family into the mix, good luck if you're not making decent money. money is very important whether people like to admit it or not.

edit: i read the last few posts. well if that's the case, then i'm moving to denmark.

I read about minimalist lifestyles yesterday. Read about people who live for 5k a year.
I'm probably not going to do that, just saying it's possible.

And yes Denmark is a nice place.

 

true if you are an adult already maybe, but what about your kids? i don't see how you could provide a decent future for your children in this world if you don't make okay money. even homeless people make more than 5K here

 

and btw i mean a "modern" lifestyle... assuming your kids will go to college and stuff

 

The people I read about make more than 5k a year, but they don't use more that 5k a year.
but those people are crazy, dumpster diving and shit.
