Sounds great - A place like that from the UK would be so fucking expensive!!!

 

I rent in the inner city, where you can't get a shitty 1 bedroom flat for under $350 AU a week, whereas our place (nice, 2 bedroom apartment) is $450 a week.

I guess we could move further from town and get a cheaper place, but we thought whilst we're renting it's handing being 10 minutes from Melbourne's CBD (40 minutes in peak hour).

We're looking to buy now, but cannot afford anything within 30kms of the CBD, so our only option is to buy something a 45-60 minute drive from the CBD (where i work), and we'd be looking at about $400,000 to buy a new, but modest 3 bedroom house in a shitty suburb.

I used to stay at a place where my room was literally 10 metres from the 18th green.

Was heavenly, until the missus nixed it, instead wanting to go to the beach (which is nice also, i guess).

 

Damn, That is expensive - I thought it was cheap in Aus

Valentines Day finished here about 6.5 hours ago, and it sure was an interesting day.

Florists here are ripoff merchants, wanting $10 per rose.

Thankfully my better half agrees with me that we shouldn't have to be told what day to show our love, so i got away without having to spend crazy money on flowers.

Best part about the whole thing is that we know the people that own the house so rent is free. Everything on the property is free with the exception of food and golf We can take a week vacation there for less than $400 including gas and everything

 

Florists bread and butter is Valentines day - I know florists that take more money on that day then in the 2 months before and after Feb 14th

 

It used to be, but housing prices have boomed in the last 5 years.

My partners parents place was worth $70k in 1990, it's now worth $500k.

Housing affordability sucks now.
Both myself and my missus are professionals, and both earn more than the median wage (and far more than most our age), yet we can't get a foot in the door of home ownership.

I feel for those blue-collar young people (especially those with children) who earn a low wage, because many are even struggling to get a rental property, let alone buy a house.

I went to Adelaide in 2001 - Looked at a new build 4 bed house, double garage, air con and all mod cons for £40k or $100k at the time.

I wonder what sort of value that house is now
