NY is well-known for hot dogs and especially pizza. even the hot dog carts on the street are amazing sometimes.

you could find a philly cheesesteak there but i can't guarantee its authenticity. we are really snobby about it for good reason. usually sucks outside of the philadelphia vicinity...

i've never been to tennessee but i KNOW they have great food there, too.

They always look awesome on cooking shows from the states (especially this one barbecue show i watch).

Hopefully i can find some good ribs when i'm over there.

Also looking forward to trying a NY pizza. On tv they always look huge.

Those carts don't look overly hygienic, although if you're having a hotdog (which i love, btw), health is probably the least of your concerns.

Always wanted to try good quality NY pizzas. They looked so good on tv.

How long a drive would it be from NY to Philly?

I'm still not overly familiar with where each and every state is (we only have 6 states in Australia), but Philly is pretty close to New York, isn't it?

I've heard good things about the food in Memphis, so i'm looking forward to trying it.

Based in New York, with a nice drive out to the 'Secret Stash' in Jersey.

New York is far more appealing to me, but i can't be so close to the 'Secret Stash' and not make the trek.

i've eaten food out of a cart countless times. we have them here in philly too. ate from one at least 2 times a week while in college and never had a single problem. i know they don't look very hygienic though, and they aren't, but i don't think it's any worse than the usual grossness that happens in the commont restaurant. :)

philly to NY or vice-versa is about a 2 hour drive during non-rush hour

What did you think of LA?

It's always been a place i'd like to go, but the cost of flying from one side of America to the other is a but offputting.

    Superb.

I want to experience as much of America as i can, so a Philly Cheesesteak is definitely on the agenda.

I'm actually considering going up to Toronto in between Tennessee and New York.
Apparently there are a lot of similarities between Canadians and Aussies, so it might be worth a trip (and it'd be cheaper than going to LA).

    Haha

    I'm used to big places.
Melbourne is a far bigger town than LA apparently (although Cali, as a state, is bigger than my state).

I still can't fathom how America has 250 million odd people. I find Australia crowded and we only have 20 million people (despite being a bigger country than America).

    Oooh, it certainly does.

My next trip will be to England/France, but after the cost of the US trip, it'll be a good 2-3 years before i can afford it.

Canada is certainly firming as the third place i go.

Starting in Tennessee and ending in NY, so it makes sense to go there, both money wise and the fact i'd experience a different country.
