    Nice to see this is encoded using HEVC, thanks. If you don't mind my asking, how do you decide whether you're going to encode with AVC or HEVC?

    Most ppl don't like HEVC because is heavy on resources with older rigs. HEVC is more advance codec that gives better results in the same bit rate.
    Originally this REMUX is 31 Mb/s. This is too much for this type of clips. I decided that 17 Mb/s is OK. I edit in DaVinci Resolve and save uncompressed in a qt container. Sometimes I use Avid DNxHD codec with qt container. Than I re encode with another advance (paid) tool in HEVC.

    Decision? Usually to make clips lighter in MB. In this example 17 Mb/s will give the same quality as 24-5 MB/s AVC then I got 40% bigger clip.
    Second when I have a good source and want to preserve quality.

    Nice job, always fancied Kristanna ever since she was the TX in Terminator 3. She has some great scenes on The L Word as well.

    IIRC some time ago HEVC was considered inferior as it smoothed/cartoonized too much compared to AVC no matter the bitrate - OK-ish for movies repack for TV/NAS but not 'preserve for eternity' quality for purists :shrug:
    Of course it took trained eye or|and side-by-side (or even 'blink between') comparision to notice.

    That's because some guys on the "scene" (RARBG, VTX, etc.) use HVEC with a low bit rate for their repack. Shrink the whole movie in 1.7- 2 GB. They are still good for casual watch/delete, but to "preserve for eternity"? :)
    I usually follow the original bit rate from the rip. The same bit rate in HEVC is much better in detail than the same bit rate in AVC.

    No, it was not about low bitrate scene rips - thread was on Videohelp .com, task was quality backup of BD and HD cam sources while test bandwidth ranges were in dozens megabits. It was thought to be flaw in codecs - something about overly aggressive edge detection and preservation etc that didn't let improve encode quality with bandwidth increase . Maybe by now it's fixed or controllable as sw codecs improve over time...

    PS "2CD|2GB" HEVC rips are OK if you watch 'em on notebook screen or from distance - and even there they're not exactly crisp on pause. But it's noticeable improvement over "2 CD AVC" nevermind "1 CD" XVID or, Emperor protects, VCD.
